I challenge PHX. I think the left side is definitely better. If you're landing to the East, you'll fly right next to downtown and have a good view of the mountains. If you land to the West, you'll come in right over Arizona State University with the football (American football) stadium that's built into a mountain. Either way, I think left is better.
The majority of hills are north of the airport so on an approach to westerly runway are on right. We always approach from north or northeast so even approaching 09 the right hand side will see the hills for most of the approach.
The valley isn't that scenic, what's outside is amazing.
