The reason I am posting is that CSRs could not give me a convincing answer. Any experiences?
Thanks.
This is one of those cases when words mean things. Are you:
A) Being issued a new card (read: same CC account, but with a different CCV), or
B) Opening a new account (read: completely new CC number)
If it's fraud / stolen, I would definitely opt for "B"...and make sure the AMEX CSR knows what you want to do. Counter-intuitively, "canceled" usually means "A," and this will NOT stop a savvy thief from continuing to use the card.
If you choose "B" (as I would suggest), make sure the CSR knows how to:
1. X-fer the spend for any bonus
2. Not delete your Delta companion ticket (or reset the date of issue)
Do this on a M-F (6 AM - 10 PM Mountain) as they are closed on the weekends. And set aside some time since it may take a while.
...and no, you are not eligible for a new account bonus
