Why not alert spg/starwood that you earned points on a stay that was book via a third party? Interesting, right?
Remember your account can be audited and the points/stays removed.
If you want points/stay credit follow guidelines in the T&C, do not book a stay via a third party and expect points/benefits.
I would never do a third party booking assuming I am getting points. However, I will always TRY and get credit for it if I can. It has happened not only with SPG but with Hilton and Marriott as well on several third party bookings including Hotwire/Priceline.
Makes no sense to do a Mattress Run via a 3rd party site But any time you use a third party site (for whatever reason), you should try and get credit for it.
