Hello everyone,

I'm resurrecting this old thread to ask for opinions for my situation. I have my first companion cert, which was issued BEFORE the changes took place (i.e., I can use it for two F fares). My husband and I are planning at trip to Hawaii with the following routing:

LAX-PDX-HNL (staying the night in pdx to visit family and then catch the non-stop morning flight the next day)
LIH-SEA-LAX (no non-stops, so must connect in SEA, which makes for long travel day)

We are traveling in May, on off peak travel days (Tues and Wed). We have never flown first class on any carrier. Using the companion cert, the flights will cost $870 additional to fly first class. This is total, not per person.

Since we have 4 segments, and a very long travel day home (LIH-SEA-LAX), I was thinking the $870 would be worth it. While I wouldn't call ourselves "cheap," we are definitely "frugal."

My husband says it's not worth it. Any opinions here?

Also, I know that we both earn miles when flying on the companion cert. Do we get 1.5 miles if we fly in F using the companion cert?

Thank you in advance!
