I had a similar experience but not in Canada. Earlier this summer I did a RTW trip. My itinerary in J was YUL-SFO-ICN-BKK with Air Canada, Asiana and Thai. I arrived at ICN in the afternoon and the flight to BKK left the next day in the morning. In my case I had no problems checking my bags all the way through BKK. It was very convenient because I did not have to bring them with my to the hotel in ICN. However I have to admit that I was a little worried while waiting for my bags at BKK, worried that they would be delayed or missing but eventually they showed up.
