Even if you come in from the South the left can be the best, the usual track is south east towards Wollongong, then turn south of Campbelltown, heading east across the Royal National Park.
Thus can give some exceptional views of bundeena, the George's River and Botany Bay.
As a SYD resident of over 20 years I prefer this approach it's got more rugged views
