I actually have the opposite feeling... I travel a lot and always hate it when officers stamp on a clean page, which could have been used for full page visas. A passport lasts longer if as many stamps are place on the same page. I usually ask immigration officers to stamp on a page which already have stamps on, if I remember. This was probably this officers logic

Ah, good point. Most of the countries I visit don't require visas or I don't stay long enough. I'll ask them to spread it out in the future!
