NUE is a very special airport anyway. They maintain that rollaboards (whether they are legal size for hand luggage or not) are categorically "not allowed" on Fokker aircraft and that they will "get in trouble with the crew" if they allow any on board, so they label anything that has wheels for DAA. If you have a backpack which larger than a rollaboard (but has no wheels), you're good to go.

Magically, once you're on board a lot of the overhead bins are empty. Knowing that would happen I casually remove the DAA tag on the bus to the plane and took my very small rollaboard on board and everyone was happy.
