I'll settle it too...you already took the hit for the credit inquiry... just keep the card... pay the $49 annual fee... use the free night cert for a room that costs more than $49... you come out ahead every year. Now what's the problem, if you really do have a lot of credit open and don't want too much, then why cancel, just ask them to lower the limit to $500.^

TWO aspects of this card make you Platinum:
#1: Keeping the card itself makes you Platinum, for as long as you hold the card.
#2: The initial posting of at least 60k points makes you Platinum as well, for the remainder of the current year AND ALSO the next year.
So let's say you sign up today and your initial bonus posts in December. You will be Plat until the LATER of: When you cancel the card OR the end of 2013.
Instead, if your initial bonus posts in January, then you're Plat until the LATER of: When you cancel the card OR the end of 2014.
