I call Delta they say they can't do anything, even after talking to supervisor. They say I have to check back periodically or pick seats at the airport. Just to check, I try to book on the same flight, and low and behold there are 2 economy seats available together and about 40 preferred seats, two of which are our original seats!!! So let me ask what happens if two people book and pick our now preferred seats?

Welcome to FT --- Delta changes it's schedule (and equipment) often, so for a flight booked so far in advance, this doesn't come as a big surprise.
If you aren't able to book seats together, what you may be able to do is get
some one on the plane to switch with you, particularly if you tell them you're on your honeymoon.
Mrs Bob H and I do this often -- switch seats that is, not go on a honeymoon!
