Stayed at Ramses in 2011 just after Arab Spring. Treated me royally and balcony view of pyramids although distant.

Traffic is epic and about 1 hour to pyramids.

Very secure although about 3 blocks to Tahir Square.

Doorman negotiated all taxi fares for me including waiting for us at pyramid light show.
