Thinking outside the box // experience from divestments
BMI is no longer a credit card merchant - which means that BA cannot refund back to a credit card (refunds must be processed back from the original merchant or via cash/ cheque)
All the payments 'we' have made for redemptions are in probably in an escrow account under the control on BA somewhere (probably Exec club) to release the funds to when the flights have been flown to the respective *A airline, hence the convoluted form for the redemption - it's a bit weird that they don't at least acknowledge but other parts of BA.com are like that too (e.g. rejected partner claims !)
