Delta seems to do something like that, too. When I have traveled (recently) with a lap baby, the seat next to me in coach was blocked. Then I was upgraded to first, and no such luck (because first was full, as usual). Not sure what the official policy is, if there even is one, but I've had occasional luck bringing a car-seat on board for a lap baby.
