But, if the cabin is not full, then I don't see why row 1 passengers should have to go trotting back to row whatever in order to find a place to stow ones stuff because other passengers have bagged the first lockers. I also don't see why one should be expected to hang around the gate so as to dash onboard as soon as boarding is announced in order to avoid the excuse-me-so-sorry-just-need-to-squeeze-past-you fandango on arrival. In these circumstances I just politely ask the crew if it can be bunged in the locker. Have never been refused so far.
Agree, though on the T1 Airbus fleet there is no locker, and extra safety equipment above 1ABC. Even being in the first handful of passengers on board can result in bags being stowed back several rows. Not the end if the world but annoying.

Although I agree that bins are shared space, row 1 has no other storage. If the 2D passenger was off duty crew one wonders why they didnt stow their bag in the locker immediately aft (above 3D) as they may be aware if the stowage issues on the short haul fleet.

Also can anyone tell me why the person allocated 1B on domestics always boards last dumping their hand baggage (usually a HUGE handbag) on the floor in front of them?
