Vail is a very reliable airport. First of all, EGE is an a big valley that tends to keep weather out. Also, its at a lower altitude than the actual ski resorts so its warmer. Of course I have had my fair share of problems at EGE, but for the most part I dont have much trouble. Usually if weather is bad at EGE, they will divert you to Denver or Salt Lake City where youll sit for a few hours at most. If you find a good fare to EGE I definitely reccomend taking it, and just be watching the forecast a few days out. If you book to Denver, you will very likely get in, but the Vail Pass could be closed which is the absolute bigest pain in the a**. ASE is a much harder airport to get into.
