I would agree that the economy compartments downstairs in these cars are somewhat cramped. However, by contrast, the deluxe compartments upstairs are very spacious (much more so than the deluxe compartments in the single-deck Comfortline cars).

In terms of space, I personally prefer the old communist-era sleeping cars which are still used on some routes in eastern Europe. The cars don't have showers, but otherwise, the basics are all there, and the compartments are much more spacious...

* I think ÖBB have some similar double-decker cars, but I am not sure which routes they use them on.
