IS that why UK trains cannot be compared with French / German trains in efficiency?
This one has a small grain of logic in some stations, such as Paddington and Euston. The trains arrive in and they need time to be cleaned and restocked. If the passengers are already swarming the platform at that point, it can get a bit crowded. Also, at Euston they do not have ticket gates and the half-dozen people who check tickets before boarding can only be in a limited number of places.

There are unofficial online websites which show you the booked platform, so you can go there if you are in the know.
