Rankorabu, I know I'm going to have to pay around $450 for 15000 points (@0.03c per mile I believe). The purpose of using the points was to pay as little as possible to DXB, as my final destination is KHI. Again DXB-KHI is with EK Skyward points. Trying to keep this whole fare for less than $900 compared to $1350-1800 all the way to KHI.
When you say 17000 miles (points) does this mean I can earn those as Aeroplan points?
yes thats what I mean - you are not only paying 80,000 points, but also giving up earning 17,000+ Aeroplan points.
I understand you want to keep costs down, but you are getting terrible value (especially when you factor in having to buy points) you are getting $800 value for 97,000 points you are giving up - that is simply awful.
My advice - swallow the ticket price at $1350, earn those other points (really only an extra $800 over using points) , and next trip, use points.
