I am a little confused.

You say you need to buy 15000 points to get a Y reward to DXB.

Considering a paid ticket is $1350 on ET - and earns over 17,000 miles

This is your math:

Buy 15000 points - $350?
Pay taxes on ticket - $120

which means you are getting about $900 value for your 80,000 points. Just over penny a point - that is crazy.

Especially considering you would also earn almost 18000 miles - almost enough for Star Gold status with Aegean.
