I found the padding in the E- seats to be very comfortable. Didn't notice the seat to be noticeably narrower than other coach seats. I was
much more comfortable in my E- seat on the UA 787 than I was in Y on the LH 744 or LX A343 the two days before (granted, I was only on the 787 for 5 hours compared to 10 and 12 hours on the LH and LX flights). The LX flight was arguably the most miserable flight of my life.
For long haul, E- on the 787 would obviously be pretty bad, as it is on any carrier, but I don't see it being any worse than the similar offerings on other airlines (specifically other planes on UA, LH, LX, OS, or AA).
E+, however, would be fine, and I would choose it over regular Y seats on any other carrier.
In BF, rows 1 and 4 in the BF cabin have noticeably more legroom due to the bulkhead.
