A walked by the QE2 a few weeks ago, and from about 50m away externally she appeared in better induction then I've ever seen her. The paint work looked immaculate, every single light was burning at night and generally she seemed well looked after. There was a little smoke from the stacks, so she appears to be operational in some form and running off her own power.
Colleagues that worked on her in the final years were quite happy to see the back of her as the maintenance issues around the ship reached saturation.

It does seem a shame that she is abandoned in Port Rashid, but I don't see what cost effective solution anyone had except scrapping her.
