With both my brand new Amex Gold and SPG cards, the CHIP will NOT work on older terminals - it will only work on the brand new terminals (the black ones with the bigger buttons). McDonalds and Price Smart Foods now has them. All I have to do is look at the CHIP terminal and I know if I need to ask them to swipe (or they know to swipe) and the swiping always works...
