 TWOV (Transit Without Visa):
- Holders of confirmed onward tickets for a max. transit
  [[TIRULES/R32]] time of 24 hours. Transit incl. two stops,
  with a total transit time of 24 hours, within China
  (People's Rep.) is permitted. (SEE NOTE 43501) (SEE NOTE
  43503) 
 - Nationals of Canada and USA are not permitted to use the
   two-stop transit within China, if transiting through
   Tianjin (TSN), Weihai (WEH), Wuhan (WUH), Xi An (XIY) or
   Zhengzhou (CGO).
    NOTE 43501: Not applicable to holders of travel documents
   (other than passports) issued by Hong Kong (SAR China) and
   Macao (SAR China). 
    NOTE 43503: Not applicable to holders of British passports
   endorsed  British National (Overseas) , who are required to
   hold a Returning Resident Permit, together with their Hong
   Kong ID.
- Nationals of Australia, Canada, Korea (Rep. of), New
  Zealand, USA and Schengen Member States [[TIRGL/SCHN]] holdin
  g confirmed onward tickets for a max. transit [[TIRULES/R32]]
  time of 48 hours, provided arriving at and departing from
  Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) or Shanghai Pudong (PVG). 
- All transiting passengers are subject to a check by
  immigration officials. 
- Leaving the transit area is allowed. (SEE NOTE 43501) (SEE
  NOTE 43503) 
    NOTE 43501: Not applicable to holders of travel documents
   (other than passports) issued by Hong Kong (SAR China) and

- Nationals of Vietnam holding normal passports endorsed  For
  Public Affairs", which must have a sheet attached on the
  visa page showing in red capitals  AB  and an additional
  validity date. 
- Holders of normal passports endorsed "For Public Affairs",
  issued to nationals of: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh,
  Benin, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cuba, Georgia,
  Guyana, Lao People's Dem. Rep., Macedonia (FYROM), Moldova,
  Montenegro, Pakistan, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkey or
  Turkmenistan.
- Holders of normal passports endorsed "For Public Affairs" or
   For Official Trip  issued to nationals of Korea (Dem.
  People's Rep. of).
- Holders of diplomatic, official, service or special
  passports, issued to nationals of Ecuador and Sudan.
- Holders of diplomatic, service or special passports issued
  to nationals of Albania, Jordan, Oman, Peru, Slovakia and
  Turkey.
- Holders of diplomatic, official or service passports issued
  to nationals of Argentina, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil,
  Brunei Darussalam, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Cuba,
  Equatorial Guinea, Guyana, Jamaica, Lao People's Dem. Rep.,
  Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Samoa,
  Thailand, Uruguay and Viet Nam.
- Holders of diplomatic or service passports, issued to
  nationals of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Benin, Bosnia and
  Herzegovina, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Georgia, Hungary,
  Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania,
  Macedonia (FYROM), Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland,
  Romania, Serbia, Seychelles, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Tanzania,
  Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Venezuela. 
- Holders of diplomatic or official passports issued to
  nationals of Maldives.
- Holders of diplomatic passports, issued to nationals of
  Russian Fed..
- Holders of diplomatic British passports. 
- Holders of official or service British passports, provided
  containing a  Visa Exempted  label issued by the authorities
  of China (People's Rep.).
- A max. stay of 90 days for holders of diplomatic or service
  passports issued to nationals of San Marino.
- A max. stay of 30 days for holders of diplomatic or special
  passports issued to nationals of South Sudan. 
- A max. stay of 30 days for holders of diplomatic or service
  passports issued to nationals of Bulgaria and Cambodia. 
- A max. stay of 30 days for holders of diplomatic or official
  passports issued to nationals of Singapore and Tonga.
- A max. stay of 30 days for holders of diplomatic, official
  or service passportsissued to nationals of Grenada, Korea
  (Dem. People's Rep. of), Nepal, Philippines and Trinidad and
  Tobago.
- A max. stay of 30 days for holders of diplomatic, service or
  special passports issued to nationals of Egypt and Tunisia.
- A max. stay of 30 days for holders of diplomatic passports
  issued to nationals of Bahamas, South Africa, United Arab
  Emirates and Uzbekistan. 
- Those holding residence permits for China (People's Rep.).
- Holders of a PRC Alien Permanent Identity Card.
- Holders of a PRC Travel Document (Lu Xing Zheng) issued by
  China (People's Rep.) to holders of Chinese Taipei passports
  not residing in Chinese Taipei. 
- Nationals of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russian
  Fed. and Turkmenistan travelling as a tourist as part of a
  tour group organized by an authorized travel agent. 
- Tourists travelling in a group organised by a Chinese
  international tour operator or registered travel agency for
  a stay of max. 6 days, provided:
  - arriving from Hong Kong or Macao to take a trip to the
  Zhujiang Delta in Guangdong province; and
  - arriving at/departing from:Dongguan (DGM), Guangzhou
  (CAN), Huizhou (HUZ), Shantou (SWA), Shenzhen (SZX) or
  Zhuhai (ZUH); and
  - being a national of a country having diplomatic relations
  with China (People's Rep.).
- Holders of an APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC)[[TIRULES/R35]]
  provided endorsed "Valid for travel to CHN".

 Merchant Seamen:
- Visa not required:
 - for those mentioned under the visa exemptions applicable to
   normal passports holders. 
 - for nationals of Poland and Ukraine arriving in Beijing
   (PEK);
 - for nationals of Lithuania, Poland, Russian Fed. and
   Ukraine arriving in Guangzhou (CAN) or Shanghai Pudong
   (PVG); 
- Merchant Seamen arriving by air in order to board a ship, or
  arriving by ship and proceeding to the airport must travel
  on duty, hold a Letter of Guarantee issued by a Chinese
  shipping company, onward tickets and all documents required
  for their next destination.

 Crew Members:
- Visa not required for nationals of:
 - United Arab Emirates when traveling on Emirates Airlines.
 - Luxembourg. 
- Visa is not required for crew members of airlines that have
  an agreement with the government of China (People's Rep.)
  exempting crew members.
- Note: Crew Members holding a C visa, must always travel on
  duty. 

 Military:
- Same regulations as for passengers apply. 

 Visa Issuance:
- Residents of Chinese Taipei can obtain a Single Entry Visa
  when arriving at:
 - Guangzhou (CAN): available from 09:00 until 22:30 hours.
   Fee: CNY150.-:
  - for holders of a valid "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan
    Residents" (Tai Bao Zheng);
  - for holders of National ID Card issued by Chinese Taipei
    (Taiwan Identity Card)  accompanied by passport
    (applicable only if passenger has never before applied for
    Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents) can obtain a
    Single Use "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents"
    (Tai Bao Zheng), provided carrier has obtained a
    pre-clearance after informing immigration authorities;
  - for holders of an expired "Mainland Travel Permit for
    Taiwan Residents" (Tai Bao Zheng) accompanied by passport,
    National ID Card issued by Chinese Taipei (Taiwan Identity
    Card) and two photos; 
 - Kunming (KMG):
  - for holders of a valid "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan
    Residents" (Tai Bao Zheng)  provided holding one photo.
    Fee: CNY 100.-. 
  - for holders of National ID Card issued by Chinese Taipei
    (Taiwan Identity Card)  and two photos (48mmx33mm) can
    obtain a Temporary "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan
    Residents" (Tai Bao Zheng). Fee: CNY150.-.
 - Tianjin (TSN):
  - for holders of a "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan
    Residents" (Tai Bao Zheng) valid for at least 3 months,
    provided holding two photos; 
  - for holders of an expired "Mainland Travel Permit for
    Taiwan Residents  (Tai Bao Zheng) accompanied National ID
    Card issued by Chinese Taipei (Taiwan Identity Card);
  - for holders of National ID Card issued by Chinese Taipei
    (Taiwan Identity Card) provided holding two photos;
 - Beijing (PEK), Changsha (HHA), Chengdu (CTU), Fuzhou (FOC),
   Guilin (KWL), Haikou (HAK), Jinan (TNA), Qingdao (TAO),
   Sanya (SYX), Shenyang (SHE), Shenzhen (SZX), Wuhan (WUH)
   and Xiamen (XMN):
  - for holders of a "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan
    Residents" (Tai Bao Zheng) valid for at least 3 months,
    provided holding two photos; 
  - for holders of National ID Card issued by Chinese Taipei
    (Taiwan Identity Card).
 - Ningbo (NGB):
  - for holders of a "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan
    Residents" (Tai Bao Zheng) valid for at least 3 months,
    provided holding two photos;
  - for holders of National ID Card issued by Chinese Taipei
    (Taiwan Identity Card).
 - Dalian (DLC):
  - for holders of a "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan
    Residents" (Tai Bao Zheng)  valid for at least 3 months,
    provided holding two photos. Fee:CNY50.-.
  - for holders of National ID Card issued by Chinese Taipei
    (Taiwan Identity Card). Fee:CNY20.-.
 - Xi An (XIY):
  - for holders of a "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan
    Residents" (Tai Bao Zheng)  valid for at least 3 months,
    provided holding four photos;
  - for holders of National ID Card issued by Chinese Taipei
    (Taiwan Identity Card);
 - Shanghai: Hongqiao (SHA) and Pudong (PVG). 
  - for holders of a "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan
    Residents" (Tai Bao Zheng) valid for at least 3 months,
    provided holding one photo.
  - for holders of National ID Card issued by Chinese Taipei
    (Taiwan Identity Card) accompanied by a passport issued by
    Chinese Taipei.
 - Chongqing (CKG): 
  - for holders of a "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan
    Residents" (Tai Bao Zheng)  valid for at least 3 months,
    provided holding two photos. Fee: CNY 100,-;
  - for holders of National ID Card issued by Chinese Taipei
    (Taiwan Identity Card) provided holding two photos. Fee:
    CNY 150,-. 
 - Nanjing (NKG) and Hangzhou (HGH): for a max. stay of three
   months; 
  - for holders of a "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan
    Residents" (Tai Bao Zheng) valid for at least 3 months,
    provided holding one photo. Fee: CNY 100,-; 
  - for holders of National ID Card issued by Chinese Taipei
    (Taiwan Identity Card)  accompanied by a passport issued
    by Chinese Taipei and two photos. Fee: CNY 150.-. 
 - Fuyang (FUG): 
  - for holders of a valid "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan
    Residents" (Tai Bao Zheng)
  - for holders of an expired "Mainland Travel Permit for
    Taiwan Residents" (Tai Bao Zheng) accompanied by passport
    and National ID Card issued by Chinese Taipei (Taiwan
    Identity Card);
  - for holders of National ID Card issued by Chinese Taipei
    (Taiwan Identity Card) accompanied by a passport issued by
    Chinese Taipei.
 - Weihai (WEH), Yantai (YNT): for a max. stay of three
   months. 
  - for holders of a "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan
    Residents" (Tai Bao Zheng) valid for at least 5 years,
    provided holding one photo. Fee:CNY 50.-. 
- Holders of normal passports issued to nationals of Germany,
  Korea (Rep. of) and Russian Fed. can obtain a visa on
  arrival, for a max. stay of 21 days, provided:
  - arriving at Haikou (HAK) or Sanya (SYX); and
  - travelling as part of a tourist group (2 or more people)
  to Hainan province. 
  Tours must be organized by a travel agent registered in
  Hainan province and approved by the National Tourism of
  China. 
- Holders of normal passports issued to nationals of
  Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France,
  Indonesia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Netherlands, New
  Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland,
  Thailand, USA and Ukraine can obtain a visa on arrival, for
  a max. stay of 15 days, provided:
  - arriving at Haikou (HAK) or Sanya (SYX); and
  - traveling as part of a tourist group (5 or more people) to
  Hainan province. 
  Tours must be organized by a travel agent registered in
  Hainan province and approved by the National Tourism of
  China. 
- Holders of holders of British normal passports endorsed
   British Citizen  can obtain a visa on arrival, for a max.
  stay of 15 days, provided:
  - arriving at Haikou (HAK) or Sanya (SYX); and
  - traveling as part of a tourist group (5 or more people) to
  Hainan province. 
  Tours must be organized by a travel agent registered in
  Hainan province and approved by the National Tourism of
  China. 
- Holders of normal passports can obtain a prearranged visa on
  arrival for a max. stay of 3 months at Beijing (PEK),
  provided:  
  - the transporting airline faxes all documents to the
  station manager prior to arrival.
  - holding confirmation from the Immigration authorities that
  visa will be issued on arrival; and
  - passport contains at least one blank visa page for the
  sticker-type visa; and
  - holding two passport photos and a letter of invitation
  issued by the Chinese authorities or by a sponsor (approved
  by Chinese authorities), who must meet passenger on arrival.
  
  Note: A representative of the arriving carrier must be
  informed before arrival of the flight.
  Fee: varies between CNY 160.- and CNY 606.-. An additional
  CNY 50.- will be required for a photograph. Extension up to
  6 months is possible by an Immigration judge (if coming on
  business purposes) (SEE NOTE 2558) (SEE NOTE 2561) (SEE NOTE

    NOTE 2558: Facility not applicable to:

  - holding confirmation from the Immigration authorities that
  visa will be issued on arrival; and

  passenger on arrival. 
  Note: A representative of the arriving carrier must be

- A transit visa can be obtained at Dalian (DLC) (SEE NOTE
  2558) for a max. stay of 7 days provided passenger:
  - holds confirmed onward tickets;
  - is a national of a country having diplomatic relations
  with China (People's Rep.).
  Fee: USD 14.-. 
    NOTE 2558: Facility not applicable to: 
  - nationals of Afghanistan, France, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria,
    Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Turkey and the USA; 
  - stateless persons and refugees.
 - facility not applicable to holders of travel documents
   issued by Hong Kong (SAR China) and Macao (SAR China). 
- Holders of normal passports issued to nationals of
  Australia, Indonesia, Korea (Rep. of), Malaysia, New Zealand
  and Thailand can obtain a visa on arrival, for a max. stay
  of 30 days, at Guangzhou (CAN). Fee: CNY170.-.
 - Those traveling as tourists require a hotel reservation or
   letter of invitation from a family member and must hold an
   onward/return ticket.
 - Those traveling on business require a letter if invitation.

 Additional Information:
- Travel on a one-way ticket is accepted. However, visitors
  are required to hold proof of sufficient funds to cover
  their stay and documents required for their next
  destination. 
- Valid visas or resident permits in expired passports are
  accepted, provided holding valid passport of the same
  nationality.
- When a visa is used, a round entry stamp is placed in the
  passport (i.e. a used single entry visa contains one round
  entry stamp, a used double entry visa contains two round
  entry stamps). 
- Those travelling to Tibet will also require a special Tibet
  Entry Permit.

 Minors:
- An individual visa is not required for children travelling
  on the passport of a parent or guardian, provided their name
  is endorsed in the visa of the passport bearer.

 Warning:
- Nationals of Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri
  Lanka and Turkey must hold a visa issued in their home
  country. If visa is issued in a third country, a residence
  visa or working permit is also required.
