I had been given a two night stay certificate from the manager of the Emily Morgan Hotel in downtown San Antonio, right across the street from the Alamo.

We decided to use it this past weekend as a get away for our 40th anniversary. I happened to check the website Saturday before we headed downtown and got a pop-up saying that in January they would become a Hilton Doubletree Hotel.

When we checked in a gave my Hilton AMEX for incidentals and the on duty manager noticed it and came over and welcomed us as HHonors members and made sure I knew they were converting, and asked what level I was - I told him Gold (could have said anything - they aren't connected to the Hilton system yet :-).

He asked if there was anything they could do for us, a fruit basket, drinks? I said drinks would be nice because we planned to go to the bar before we went out for our anniversary dinner. He said instead of a drink he'd send us up a bottle of champagne - and he did! We were also moved to the top floor in a newly renovated room.

Pretty nice considering they aren't even a Hilton yet - and the best I've ever done at a Hilton property was a bottle of water and some Oreos :-)
