I'm just curious why this card would still be a keeper when you could redirect spend to meet limits for churns. Additionally, I think a card like the chase sapphire provides a better proposition as you can at least transfer points to other programs. This card you can't transfer and all travel rewards are .009 per point.

There's a much more lively discussion of the PenFed cards on the fatwallet message board. Since you can't really turn PenFed points into first class airline tickets, Flyertalkers don't seem to be too interested.
That said, both their Visa card and their AMEX card are probably worth acquiring. First, you get a $250 sign up bonus after spending $1000 (you can take it in gift cards or use it to book flights, but can't directly get cash) and then you earn 5% back on gas purchases with the Visa and 5% back on airfares with the AMEX. There's no annual fee and no foreign transaction fee. If you don't mind having a card just for airline tickets and another one just for gas, I don't see why you wouldn't keep these cards for these purposes.
