British Airways Flying with Confidence course sounds like the best option to be honest. It should be better than micro-managing one's fears by trying to know the crew routine or being drugged up.

I have not needed it, but I believe it is an excellent course.
My Mum did one by Britannia years ago (pre-September 11th) from East Midlands, and she can fly without fear now. All the "Bing-Bongs" were explained to her, along with what sounds were what. She did a RTW not long after.
(I flew with her, and my lasting memories are getting to go and see the cockpit in-flight, and the numbness of my hand being grasped during take-off, not only from my Mum, but the other woman in the seat beside!)
Other courses are available, and a quick Google shows EasyJet do one as well.
