At the risk of being labelled a NZ apologist, I think you're being a bit harsh saying these charges are "hidden" and "on the sly". They are clearly stated in your quote. They are also the standard intl CC fees and booking fees for NZ and both can be avoided (use POLi online), so the original quoted fare can still be achieved. Many other non-US airlines have CC fees (including QF) and contact centre booking fees (last year I paid AUD60-70 to book a AA itin at a price I couldn't book online).
