With flying booked through year-end, I'll be about 6,000 miles away from MVP Gold 75K (earning it primarily through partner miles on DL). Two questions:

1). Is the status worth the effort to get it? If I did a mileage run, the value of the 50K bonus miles would probably pay for the mileage run tickets, so that is a wash.

2). Is there any likelihood that Alaska will run some kind of challenge in Q1 of 2013 for people who are close to the status but didn't quite make it?
