It was Canada... and they questioned my children for about 10 minutes each (separately), while I was given a short lecture.

Further, while I was somewhat offended at the time it makes perfect sense. If you are travelling to another country with your children, and both parents aren't present... it is a fair question and better to be prepared. I since, never had an issue but always carried a letter from their Mom.
