HI DAVID,
thank you for your marvelous explanation for these 3 confusing schemes around avios.

Regarding the following issue, I happen to be working on a similar trip plan, during which I wanna book a ticket from GRX-FCO, which should be able to make use of Reward Flight Saver. FYI, I opened my IB+ account last week and transferred some hotel points into it. I do have some avios in my account.

Well, GRX-MAD/MAD-FCO costs 15,187 Avios + 53 .70 € on iberia.com
same route costs 7500 Avios + less than 20 € on BAEC and avios.com

What is this about?

If so, your IB+ account does not qualify for 'Reward Flight Savers' which replace the taxes and charges with a fixed surcharge.

*earnt = flight, hotel, Amex transfer, buy Avios in your IB+ account.
Transfers from BAEC to IB+ do not count as earning (for qualifying you for 'Reward Flight Saver pricing, etc).

Credit: Flights, hotel stays/points, amex points, etc to your IB+.
Or transfer them from your BAEC account.

However, as I mentioned above, you need some earning directly into IB+ to make it active, and also ensure you qualify for Reward Flight Saver prices etc.

So either transfer some Amex, or hotel points (Etc), or look in another thread for details on the Alice supermarket offer. For registering (and signing up to emails for a month or so) they will credit your IB+ account with 125 Avios within a month or so. (Then you unsubscribe). This is enough to make your account active, the rest you want to spend at IB+ could be transfered from BAEC, etc.

Do you have BAEC status?
What was the route?
