To start out you should get the USAir credit card just for the sign-up bonus - no spending requirement, an easy 50K miles. For spending, I would look into hotel cards. Depending on which hotels you stay at you could multiply your points/$ by 3 to 12, depending on chain. Check out the Hilton, Marriott, and Hyatt threads right here on FT.
