Travel: KIX to Kyoto, a paradox of choices?
Earlier this year, in connection with a short trip to Kyoto via KIX airport, we purchased 3-day JRWest passes to cover the round trip on the Haruka.. IIRC, at 5,000 yen when purchased via credit card from outside Japan, it was apparently a better choice than two one-ways or round trip train tickets. But now I’m not sure. Today, as I started to repeat this for an upcoming trip, I noted that there is (now) a combo, ICOCA+HARUKA for round trip train travel plus a shopping card good for busses, subways, etc ... all for 4,000 yen. Huh?. Seems like a no-brainer, but there was something unclear in the description & I got the impression that you couldn’t necessarily do this & prepay from outside Japan & that credit cards couldn’t be used at the KIX station. I also tried to look up the RT fare for the Haruka, thinking that this might be better than doing the 3-day pass. OK, maybe now a paradox of choices. I’d appreciate any clarification that someone could provide. TIA.
