Iberia's award engine is just completely fubar - the C inventory has simply disappeared.
No idea if the EZE-MAD seats showing on BA were bookable.
The married segments explanation might be true however when I tried EZE-MAD-BCN or a couple of other Spanish destinations they didn't show. I'm beginning to think it might be a glitch. The guy did say that seats would likely open up later for that particular EZE-MAD flight but I wasn't going to take the chance and have booked to leave a day earlier. Saved 30,000 Avios between the two of us so it was worth it in the end.
