Last year I went skiing in Europe for the first time (and for the first time on skis in about 10 years) at Les Gets. Myself and a friend went, and we booked with a company that handled everything and put us up in lodge. I really liked the lodge experience, as it allowed us to meet other people, and ski with others (as we were different levels of experience).
I want to go again this year, but unfortunately for various reasons, I will be on my own. Most of the all-inclusive ski holidays are based on double-occupancy, and the company I used last year (who were excellent) don’t do singles holidays other than with a rather large singles supplement.
I am posting this in the Europe forum, as I would like to go somewhere in Europe (I am based in London), but am not fussy as to the location – France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, elsewhere – I am open. I am an intermediate skier – mostly blues with a few of the less gnarly and moguled blacks.
I have been doing some research on possible options.
Obviously I could book myself, get a hotel room and ski from there, but the lodge experience was quite good and did provide a good opportunity to meet people. It was good to be able to ski with people during the day. Perhaps there are options for a hotel stay, but some opportunity to hook up with groups of similar levels, or go with a ski guide a couple of days? I was also thinking of taking some lessons, so perhaps I would meet people that way.
However, I am open to other options, if anyone has any avenues for me to explore?
I found that a company called Powder White does single holidays that has a singles option, as detailed in this Evening Standard article -
http://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/...s-8180253.html.
Powder White has come up with a new formula for singles hols. No embarrassing games but the same number of men and women, good food and plenty of wine. A week from £499pp half-board at Chalet Amelie in Courchevel Moriond (formerly 1650), powderwhite.com.
Does anyone else have recommendations on what a single skier can do to hit the slopes, but also get an opportunity to ski with a group?
Thanks,
Greg
