Just out of interest, in this situation, how many of us would bother going to the airport?
I realise it's unlikely to happen in BKK but closer to (BA's) home there isn't there a risk of a late aircraft substitution and therefore the delay decreasing?

Of course you know this is normal. In fact, they do it deliberately (a) to keep you on your toes, and (b) you know you're collecting Avios/TPs with BA. All part of the "understated elegance" I think.... any other FF scheme would just credit what's due, but that would be, well, so
efficient and boring...
