Ring them up, tell them what you want (new flight numbers, flying on Thai, etc) and ask. It will cost them the best part of £1k if they don't reroute you do they do have an incentive.
Wow.. More than expected there. Im not going to make a fuss about changing carrier to try and stick to schedule, as GF is ok with things as long as i still carry all her stuff and it gets to her with 48 hours

The first option may turn into the second (phone agents tend to have limited information about this area), so personally I'd just find some reasonably priced 4 star accommodation and charge it to BA. The obvious one being the new-ish Novotel connected to BKK airport (follow signs for the Skytrain).
2) For the onward connection from London, you may want to think that one through yourself - and when they rebook you ask to be kept in First. So in your shoes I'd be hunting through ExpertFlyer (etc) so that I know your options. If you are happy to go earlier then this may (or may not) impact the next point. If you are held in London then there is a well oiled process to get you a hotel. If they don't tell you in BKK, go to Flight Connections customer services at the northern top of the arrivals hall and they'll give you the vouchers.
Oh) Yes you may be eligible for compensation, but it would depend on the precise circumstances. Broadly speaking if this was under BA's control and not forseeable then you may be eligible for EU261 compensation.
Personally I takes these things on how the airline treats me. If they look after me well then I tend not to worry about Oh) but that's a personal stance. Good luck, and hard lines over the hassle.
Thanks. I like the Novotel, stayed there the night whilst GF's flight came in, and as long as i get the Avios upgrade miles back i will take CW overnight (providing they dont do another CW to CE downgrade on me
