I cancelled united visa when they charged annual fee after a year. After much talk from "representative" on phone, they offered 10,000 mile bonus to renew card. I asked if I had decided to renew and pay the fee, would I have gotten the 10k miles. No! You have to cancel and if they want to keep you, they will offer the incentive. Now, every year I will cancel and get the 10,000 miles!
