You might try calling EVA in Taipei and see if they will let you use the miles for a promo, mags, merchandise or maybe they would let you use them to upgrade the flight. They require 3x,xxx miles for TPE to LAX but they may extend the upgrade is return for the miles. Never hurts to ask nicely.
