I do not for a moment think that this was the OP's expectation.

You are right, sad though it is.

I will feel as aggrieved if I were the OP. The problem with the housekeeping lady fades into insignificance when the DM reacted the way he did. He was consistent though, in failing to respond despite telling you that he would, despite a voice call, without apologizing or acknowledging his tardiness even when you dropped by and ultimately taking the cake by effectively saying that you were lying (how did he come to that view? at best it was 50-50 as to whether it was the housekeeper or you), and even if he was saying that he was totally confused and stressed out as the version of facts from the housekeeper was totally different from yours, he has failed in his job as DM.

I can understand OP not returning the (a) as it was the DM behaving this way and (b) no one superior to him as put it right. Returning would almost be asking for more of the same.

In this case, IMHO, the OP should contact the GM, even now. This is in fact doing the GM and the hotel a service, helping them in preserving the effort the others have built up.

I also agree with hotju2 that OP should name the hotel. That there are staff there (junior to he DM) who are kind and competent does not mean the hotel does not have a problem or that it benefits by being shielded. Indeed, honestly stating the facts helps the property and does the good staff justice, surely they do not enjoy their good work being damaged by others and hope that there is improvement. The OP's fondness and loyalty to the property should mean that he should help it by telling the GM and others what is wrong with it, so that the same problem does not occur again.
