I was just looking at car hire costs in the US when booking through BA, and I was surprised at how cheap they are compared to booking direct with Avis.

I am being quoted about £375 by BA for a 14 day hire. Going direct to the Avis website results in a quote of over $1,100 for the same car at the same time. That is before you add in any insurance extras.

Is this right or am I missing something? The Avis cost looks way too high, so I suspect that I'm doing something wrong there. Also, does booking through BA include all insurance and taxes, or will I get stung for extras when collecting?

Sorry for the probably stupid questions. It's years since I hired a car in the US.
