If this question referred to long-haul, I would've definitely recommended SQ over MH any day. However I flew MH from BKK to KUL a few months back on a 737-800 and was quite pleased with the seat back entertainment and service on a 2 hour hop.

However, SQ only operate a wide-body fleet these days, so for a short hop there's a possibility the seat etc may be more preferable?

Was it actually SQ operated flights, not SilkAir for some of it?

I've flown AirAsia on a few 2 hour Asian hops and had no ill words about them, for the price they can be an excellent option.
