ST already has KE,CI,CZ,MU and VN. GA is going to join too. ST doesn't need to chase (EAst Asia). JL would have been nice. What ST need is better presence in Africa, Middle East and India. Even without an Indian Carrier, both *A and OneWorld, connect Asia Pacific with India, which is a big hole in ST. MEA and Saudia are more of a consolation prize in the Middle East. Neither can stand up to TK.
There are network issues (coverage of the world, ideally with decent schedules and convenient connections in efficient and pleasant airports) and there are quality issues. For me personally, the SkyTeam network itself has been fine, or at least acceptable. Where I see a lack is in quality of partner airlines overall. I'd also like to be able to get IFC award tickets with my DL miles or upgrade more easily on (more) partners.
