Holding the DTW-DCA flight is extremely unlikely, even if your DEN-DTW flight is late completely due to DL. If you absolutely need to be there by 9 AM, I'd recommend looking to switch flights *now*...SDC can be risky as there might not be any seats left on the flight you're looking to switch to.
