My need is somewhat different, though it still involves 2 adults and 1 baby. I am considering offering a family member one way tickets to Hawaii, so LAX-OGG. I've never booked for an infant, and am woefully ignorant about doing so.

One way in coach is 10,000 Avios plus $2.50 for each adult. (Yes, it is a nonstop flight.)

One way in coach is 17,500 AA miles plus $2.50 for each adult.

If I use Avios, how do I find out if there is a charge for a lap child? This sets aside whether the parents want a seat for the baby or are willing to travel with him as a lap child. I don't know their position about that.

We currently have a family account that I would need to dissolve in order to offer them tickets. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the award so that I can decide if it is something that I want to offer and thus will need to dissolve the account if the offer is accepted.

Also, when I give tickets from my UA account, my status determines the number of suitcases which the recipient can take free. Is that the case with BA or do they only have their own nonexistent status to determine luggage benefits.

If we move ahead on this, how long does it take to dissolve a household account?
