Which airport to choose?
I would point out that DFW is a very big airport, and is not entirely immune from poor weather. Admittedly for connecting flights it may not involve too much distance to cover, but I've even been bussed at DFW.

I personally don't find the terminal change at ORD too bad, even when walking it, I tend not to bother with the bus link, but it does save a security scan. In addition to the extra flights from ORD there is also easy access to BOS/NYC/WAS etc. There probably isn't a perfect answer.
