I thought the FAQ sticky said Hyatt got rid of capacity control for award rooms. If a standard room is available, you can book an award stay. If that's the case, why wouldn't this work?
Because as stated, if a hotel is "filling" up cancelling a revenue base room may not result in that room being put back into the base room inventory since hotels oversell lower category rooms all the time - much like airlines (as you get close to filling up the plane the inventory is 0 for lower fare buckets and you may book only "full" Y at a higher cost).
