I'm afraid I am joining the 'devil's advocates' camp. As others I have no doubt that you had a horrible flight because of the incident and this is particularly annoying when you need to work the next morning.
But I also have a 'philosophical' issue with the notion of compensation due when there is no responsibility. For the sake of argument, let's assume that there had been lots of turbulences en route and as a result of the permanent shaking of the planes you had not been able to sleep all night. Would you have asked/expected the airline to provide compensation? Or what if you had not been able to rest because someone else on board had caught a cold and kept sneezing or blowing his nose? Would you expect the airline to offer a few thousand miles as compensation? Or here is another one. You go to your bank to deposit some checks, and as you are queuing, some b*stard comes in with a gun to rob the bank, which of course is a horrible experience for all the customers present. The bank handles it well, gives the money to avoid any violence so that everyone is unhurt and let the criminal escape before alerting the police who arrest him a few minutes later. Would you then expect the bank to offer some compensation to the unlucky witnesses? No, I may expect the judge to order the criminla to pay some compensation but it seems to me that the bank is just another victim like the AF crew is just another victim of the nutty lade like you are.
So to be honest, I think that a 'so sorry you ended up getting mixed up with it and having a horrible trip' is not all that inappropriate in this particular case.
