what you are looking for is noise deadening or noise dampening, not noise cancellation. look it up on google, and get some of those materials. some are not to ugly. some ceiling tiles are quite good. they can be placed on walls as well as ceilings, and can if tall ceiling, can be put in vertical rather than flat. they usually have the additional property of heat insulation. rolls of fiberglass(that pink stuff) is very good, but not too nice for an indoor environment. can put it under the bed.
