Obviously the airlines don't keep stats. I had never heard of this either until about a year ago. Since that time, I get contacted about 2-3 a week by passengers who have either been threatened with arrest or arrested. I would say 80-90 percent of these folks were high mileage frequent fliers. I was curious if others who spend significant time in airports have seen this type of behavior.
It was scary to me, as a frequent flyer, that a gate agent could say she was assaulted, the passenger denies it, and the passenger is arrested. (assault, swearing, and intoxication seem to be the buzz words) It was additionally disturbing that when a passenger is arrested no one from airline management is notified.
