boss315 is right. Pricing out a one way the system is mapping you into a higher fare bucket than if you did a roundtrip to meet the fare class requirements of a lower fare bucket.

If it makes sense for you to book a return and disregard the return, than do it. In this case, miles might be a better option. To each their own...
